Stepan Shahumyan's house-museum
In 1934, in order to perpetuate the memory of Stepan Shahumyan, the house belonging to the Ter-Grigoryans, where he lived and worked, became a house-museum named after Shahumyan. In 1968, the house had about 150 years of history and was in danger of falling apart, so reconstruction work began. The newly built complex was commissioned in 1978.
In 1991 the House-Museum of Stepan Shahumyan was transformed into the Stepanavan Culture and Entertainment Center, incorporating the House-Museum of Stepan Shahumyan into it.
The total number of museum collection is 1646 exhibits. The archaeological collection includes objects from the Paleolithic, Neolithic - Eneolithic, Bronze Age and Early Iron Ages, medieval periods excavated from the monuments of the region. The collection also includes paintings, drawings, graphic paintings, photographs, a mosaic with the image of Stepan Shahumyan, books, documents, medals, banknotes of old and new periods, musical instruments, household items, sculptures, woodwork, archaeological objects, personal items ofvStepan Shahumyan and Anastas Mikoyan, posters-photos representing Stepanavan, models, carpets, tapestry. Various works representing the Kuna Indian tribe living in the territory of Panama, as well as the Persian culture, are also stored in the funds.
Stepan Shahumyan's memorial house with museum objects representing the period is presented in the permanent exhibition. A separate part of the exhibition is devoted to the history of the 409th Rifle Division of the Great Patriotic War (the members of the division were mainly from Stepanavan).
